About Tricycle

Tricycle as it exists today, is somewhat different from the Tricycle you may have heard of nearly ten years ago when it began. In 1995 Justin Adams and Brent Nichols got together to take some praise and worship songs and make them better, and more appealing to the younger generation. But as soon as they started getting together they realized that more was in store for this project. They enlisted the aid of a young kid just learning to play drums named Dave Reeves. While sitting at a table waiting for the pizza to arrive, they were discussing what the band should be called. The janitor of the church walked in, said "You guys are Tricycle”, and walked out. That settled that. And when Justin called his wife that night to tell her that they had a name for the band, she responded that she had what would become the perfect scripture to describe them. Ecclesiastes 4:12 says, "Where one may be defeated, two may stand. A cord of three strands is not easily broken”.

Tricycle immediately started writing songs and performing around town. They continued to develop their musical tightness, and showmanship over the course of the next 3 years, when they caught the eye of an impressionable young bass player named Randy Highsmith. A huge fan instantly, Randy became friends with the members, and started hanging out at their practices and shows, and learning all of their songs. In 1997 the band released their debut c.d., "Bring Back Tomorrow”.

In early 1998, after months of people calling and several intense prayer sessions, the guys decided that they would follow Gods call, and move to Nashville, TN. This turned out to be a decision that would affect the lives of all of the families in, and surrounding Tricycle. Immediately after making the decision, Brent announced that his wife was pregnant. He had just started a new job, and after some serious prayer, had decided that his place was in California . Because of his personal relationship with the band, and the fact that he knew all of their songs, Brent asked Randy if he would take his place as bass player. Honored, and a little scared, Randy accepted. One month later they were in Nashville .

After meeting with several record companies, and playing in different cities across the country, in spring of 1999 Tricycle returned to California so that Randy could be married. After the wedding, the guys got together and had a meeting, at which time Dave announced that he was leaving the band. He felt that the time had come for him to pursue other avenues of life. Still having several shows booked, and their return trip to Nashville pending, the band enlisted the aid of Randys brother Bob to fill in on drums. Shortly after returning to Nashville , Bob and the band parted ways, and Tricycle began looking for another drummer. At this point, Tricycle felt that they had accomplished what God had for them in Nashville , and it was time to return to California . After a short tour back, the band settled once more into its home in Sacramento .

At this point in 2000 Justin and Randy decided to take some time off, to focus on their families, and help lead worship at local churches. They made a decision not to pursue Tricycle any further until God brought them a drummer. In late 2003 God did just that. Ron Larson, a longtime acquaintance of both Justin and Randy, called the band, and told them that he couldn’t explain why, but God had been telling him to call. He met with Justin and Randy and told them that he was supposed to be their drummer. They began practicing immediately. In April 2004 they entered the studio to begin working on their new c.d., "Show Me the Truth”. The album was released on May 31st at Adventure Christian with 400 in attendance. God is good. Now it's time to go to work. The band has this to say about their mission: "Tricycle is, was, and always will be 100 Percent about taking the Gospel of Jesus Christ out into the world. We are not simply Christians in a band. We are not simply a spiritual band with positive lyrics. We are first, and foremost, a ministry dedicated to spreading the message of Repentance and Salvation to every corner of this planet, through music and teaching. We believe in the Great Commission. We believe in the healing power of the Blood of the Christ to save people from Hell. And we will follow the will of God wherever, and whenever we possibly can."
